The new headquarters of the Łódź Provincial Council is a former bank building.
The building was constructed in 1910–1911 on behalf of the Łódź Industrialists’ Mutual Credit Society. It was built by the Łódź-based firm “Wende and Klause” according to architectural plans by Wilhelm Martens, a Berlin architect specializing in early modernist buildings. In 1947, the building became the property of the State Treasury and served as a bank. Bankers from the National Bank of Poland (NBP) and PBG worked on Roosevelta Street, and the last financial institution to be located there was Pekao SA. The building served as a setting for many films; productions shot here include “Miasto44” (dir. Jan Komasa, 2015), “Kurier” (dir. Władysław Pasikowski, 2019), “Wojenne dziewczyny,” and “Osiecka.”
It was reopened in 2024. The renovation included stucco work, walls, and wooden interior elements: floors, doors, paneling, furniture, and safes. Some rooms were adorned with painted decorations based on fragments of ornamentation discovered beneath layers of paint and plaster. The historic wallpaper was restored, and the new wallpaper echoes the original designs. An elevator was installed in the inner courtyard, making the building accessible to people with mobility issues. A new granite cobblestone pavement was laid.
The building still houses its original safes, vaults, as well as cloakrooms and restrooms.
