Description:

One of the most remarkable filmmakers in the history of cinema, the recipient of many movie awards, including an Honorary Oscar for lifetime achievement – Andrzej Wajda, confronts us with the story of an unwavering man, a prominent painter Wladyslaw Strzeminski, with outstanding Boguslaw Linda in a leading role. “Afterimage” is an intimate record of the last stage of life of the pioneer of an avant-garde in Poland in 1920s and 1930s. The main character is an artist who didn’t submit to the mandatory socialist realism and has to cope with dramatic consequences of his choices. “Afterimage” shows us how the communist regime destroyed a charismatic, proud man. Wajda, like no other, can extract imperceptible images from a non-painters’ world in a universal though subtle way, and turn them into a feast for the audience. Film co-financed by the Lodz Film Fund in 2016.
