The building at 65 Targowa Street in Łódź, currently home to the Academy of Film Art and Design, has a rich history dating back to the early 20th century. Built in 1912, it was designed in an L-shape and stood out for its Art Nouveau architectural features, such as its asymmetrical façade. In 1912, on the initiative of Anna Scheibler, wife of Łódź factory owner Karol Scheibler, a daycare center for the children of Scheibler’s factory workers was established in the building. The daycare’s interiors were decorated with murals inspired by the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm, intended to bring joy to the children. After World War II, the building housed the offices of Uniontex and the party’s works committee. During this period, the murals in the conference room were painted over. However, after the building was privatized, they regained their original appearance. In April 2004, the building became the headquarters of the Academy of Art and Design in Łódź.
