The palace was built between 1910 and 1912 in a park along the Łódka River, at the intersection of Franciszkańska and Północna Streets, by Alfred Biedermann, a well-known Łódź industrialist and the director and co-owner of a family-run textile factory. It draws inspiration from 17th-century French classical palaces and is characterized by a modernist style. The palace complex consists of two buildings connected by a passageway: the main, representative three-story residence (on the west side) and the service wing (on the east side).
After World War II, Alfred Biedermann’s palace, along with the factory and the residence at 2 Kilińskiego Street, was nationalized and converted into a nursery, and later also a kindergarten for the Szymon Harnam Cotton Industry Works, and subsequently “Rena Kord.” At the end of the 20th century, the palace became the property of the University of Łódź and underwent a thorough renovation between 1999 and 2003.
